Earlier today, I got a email from fanfiction.net, saying they had found one of my stories that'd be plagiarised by somebody else. By then, it was all taken care of, the other user had deleted the story from their account and now they're being watched, but it's still a bit weird that somebody would look around a site, find a piece they might enjoy and make it pass as their own. And I wonder what makes a person does that. I mean, is it suposed to be flattering in some way? That somebody would want to take my own story and pass it as their own? Does it mean it's good or anything, should I be happy? Cause I'm not really, in all honesty, but that's no surprise. I'm just sad I didn't have the chance to go up to that person and ask them directly why, because I wasn't given any information as to the other person's account, and if the person who reported it hadn't done it, it might still be up to this day and I'd probably not be aware of it by now.
So I think the point is to thank whoever went to report it, even though I don't know who it was and they'll probably never read this. I don't consider myself an overly talented writer - I enjoy writing, I do it for fun. It's fanfictions, it's not even my own story base, simply adding to it, though it's still writing I know. But what I write comes out of my head anyway, even if the character isn't original. And I think it's only fair that the story that I write in itself remains my own.
We talk about it a lot, a couple of people experience it, a bunch of others do it. I never really gave much thought into it, I mean yeah I don't think it's right to steal somebody else's work and make it pass as your own, may it be art or school related, but I'd never really had the occasion to think on it a lot until now.
